Buenos dias from Buenos Aires

IMG_0546Howdy! I thought I would do a quick post to say hi and describe our first few days in Argentina.

The trip to BA was a bit grueling. 24 hours of flying with layovers in SF and Panama City.  We arrived in Buenos Aires on Tuesday night at 9:30 as planned. Customs was straightforward and all that remained was to get cash and get a taxi to our hostel. Simple right? Not so much. All of the ATMs in the aiport were out of cash. We tried all five in the international terminal before getting the word. Luckily the taxi took US dollars so we got to our hostel (BA Stop) right around midnight.

One word to describe Buenos Aires in the summer- HOT! It was 95 degrees today. Our room does not have AC (the hostel kind of does in the common room but they do not use it much) so we have been sweating quite a bit. Wednesday we went to the zoo and walked around Palermo and discovered that the best thing for a sweltering day in Buenos Aires is a milkshake. So we have had many of those. A little more wandering and a beer and fruity tea cocktail (for Rich of course) later and we headed back to the hostel for a siesta. People eat late in BA and most restaurants do not open until 8 or 9. We had a nice steak dinner at Don Julio in Palermo that night (because that is what you do in BA).

Yesterday we took a day trip to Tigre- an hour away by train- to take a boat ride out into the delta where people live on the river and get around by boat. We stayed close to the hostel last night (in the Centro) and had Argentine pizza (they do not skimp on the cheese). Today we decided to do indoor activities to stay out of the heat. We walked around San Telmo a bit and went to the MAMBA- modern art museum with a really interesting funhouse like exhibition and great AC. We headed up to the Konex Cultural Center thinking there were art galleries but really it was just a photo exhibit of the Rolling Stones so we passed. Tonight we are checking out a tango show (cause that is what you do in BA).

So that is us so far. Rich shaved his head before we left so look out for the pics when I figure out how to post them. I like it!

How are you?
